Cracker Safety Tips
Fireworks are most fun when everyone stays safe. Follow these simple precautions for a happy, accident-free Diwali with Kanagam Crackers.
Before you light
- Buy only from licensed, safety-compliant manufacturers โ every Kanagam cracker is sourced this way.
- Read the instructions printed on each product before use.
- Light crackers outdoors in an open space, away from buildings, vehicles, dry leaves and crowds.
- Keep a bucket of water and a bag of sand nearby in case of emergencies.
- Wear cotton clothing (synthetics catch fire easily) and closed footwear.
While lighting
- Light one cracker at a time and step back immediately to a safe distance.
- Never hold a cracker in your hand while lighting it, except hand-held sparklers.
- Use an agarbatti (incense stick) or a long candle to light โ never a match held close.
- Never bend over a cracker. If a cracker fails to ignite, do not approach it for several minutes, then douse it in water.
- Keep a safe distance from aerial shots and shells โ these must always be fired in open areas.
Protecting children & pets
- Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- Give kids only low-risk crackers โ sparklers, flower pots and ground chakkars โ and skip loud sound crackers.
- Keep pets indoors in a calm, quiet room; loud crackers can frighten and harm them.
- Teach children to drop used sparklers into a water bucket, not on the ground.
After bursting
- Soak all used and unused crackers in water before discarding them.
- Never relight a 'dud' cracker โ douse it in water and dispose of it.
- Store unused crackers in a cool, dry place away from heat, flames and electrical sockets.
- Clean up debris promptly so children and pets don't pick it up.
